Matthew completes LEJOG challenge for Cure Leukaemia

Matthew, one of our directors, completed a 10-day ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats with Team Toby, averaging around 100 miles a day. The challenge was ridden in memory of Toby Griffiths and raised more than £30,000 for Cure Leukaemia as part of a wider fundraising effort that has exceeded £42,000.

Matthew, one of our directors at Wenlock Spring, has completed the LEJOG cycling challenge as part of Team Toby, riding from Land’s End to John O’Groats to raise funds for Cure Leukaemia. The 10-day journey covered more than 1,000 miles and was completed in memory of Toby Griffiths.

Ten days on the road
LEJOG is one of the UK’s most recognised long-distance cycling routes. For Matthew and Team Toby, the challenge meant averaging around 100 miles a day and spending approximately 70 hours in the saddle as they travelled the length of Great Britain.

The figures tell part of the story. Around 70 hours of riding were spread across ten consecutive days, alongside the cumulative effort of long distances and repeated climbs. Each stage demanded physical and mental determination, followed by the need to do it all again the next day.

One of the later stages took the team from Perth to Grantown-on-Spey. It covered 96.1 miles and included 7,452 feet of climbing, with a maximum gradient of 14%. That single stage illustrates the scale of the challenge the riders faced across the full route.

After ten days of riding, Team Toby reached John O’Groats and completed the challenge at 13:00. The finish marked the end of a demanding journey and an important moment for everyone who had followed and supported the team.

Riding in memory of Toby
The challenge was completed in memory of Toby Griffiths, with funds raised to support Cure Leukaemia’s work in blood cancer research and treatment. While the ride was measured in miles, hours and climbing, its purpose was the fundraising effort behind every stage.

Throughout the journey, the team shared progress updates, Garmin LiveTrack links and moments from the road, allowing supporters to follow the challenge as it unfolded and encourage the riders from afar.

The wider Team Toby fundraising effort has raised more than £42,000. More than £30,000 came from the LEJOG challenge alone, with a further £12,000 raised through the Bridgnorth Walk. The total reflects the support built around the team and the cause they were riding for.
